Mermaids and Mardi Gras
The Sirens of the Sea Ball
Our ball is one of the most upscale and luxurious balls in the area. Held every year at the beautiful Perdido Beach Resort, we host our members and guests to a sit down dinner, open bar, and the most beautiful cakes you’ve ever seen – one honoring our Queen and one that honors our Emblem.
This is a very upscale event and there are guidelines about what you and your guests are required to wear. For the gentlemen, it’s a tux and black tie. And for the ladies, all gowns must touch the floor.
All members will participate in one of our most beloved traditions- the Tableau. Each member and guest is introduced and enters the ballroom to bow and curtsy in front of the Queen. (It’s quite a show!) The spectacular evening is enhanced with gorgeous decorations, a live band, dancing, and a members-only second line dance with our ornately decorated parasols. It’s an evening you’ll never forget!
Mardi Gras Parades
The Sirens of the Sea have two parade floats to accommodate all our members. The Queen rides on one float and the Emblem on the other. We typically participate in four parades: Orange Beach’s night parade the Saturday prior to Fat Tuesday; the Wharf Parade on the evening before Fat Tuesday; and then the Gulf Shores parade and the Orange Beach parades on Fat Tuesday.

Also, at parades, sometimes we throw flip flops at the crowd. Lots of krewes have a signature throw, and for us we decorate one flip flop, package it in a pretty bag, and throw it at parade goers. Why? We’re mermaids with tails – what the heck are we going to do with flip flops?
In January, we will rent a bus and take a bead-buying trip to Mobile where each Siren member is responsible for purchasing her own beads to throw during the parades. We have cocktails and lunch and it’s always a good time!
The Fabulous Queen’s Luncheon
This luncheon is held someplace swanky, and we get all dressed up (hats and fascinators are encouraged) to honor our Queen as the kickoff for the Mardi Gras season. The Queen and Emblem are given gifts and donations for their appointed charities.
Everyone and everything is beautiful at these luncheons and you won’t want to miss it.
